FTGS History

1970: Girls Softball begins to take shape   in the summer during boys baseball season.

1971: The first league was formed. Ninety girls, ages ten to fourteen. All games were played on FTLL fields.

1972: One hundred girls ages nine to fourteen. Two leagues were formed; 9-11 & 12-14.

1976: Pixie program is initiated. Two hundred girls in three leagues.

1982: First program book is published.

1983: Two hundred fifty girls. FTGS was recognized as area leader in girls softball. Pixie age lowered to seven.

1984: Three hundred girls. Lights on the girls field. Dugouts were enclosed and all girls were in "full" uniform.

1985: Electronic scoreboard was installed. First year of fast pitch softball.

1986: All umpires became ASA trained.

1987: Major league was for girls sixteen to eighteen. Edgewood and Triton participated in majors.

1988: Concession stand becomes a reality. Both fields now have concessions.

1989: Over four hundred girls. Dugouts and fences are installed on Lutheran field. Pixies pitch for the first time.

1990: Thirty-three teams in four leagues.

1993: Minor league is formed. Field #3 begins it's inaugural season. Pixie coaches are pitching again.

1994: Cadet league is formed. Five hundred and twenty-five girls in five leagues.

1995: Twenty-five years of Girls Softball in Franklin Township! Cadet league is expanded to all high school age girls. Pixies include six year old girls. Forty-five teams!

1996: New fencing around diamonds #2 and #3. Enlarged diamond #3 to regulation size and named it after the sponsor of its' renovation ENGLISH EXCAVATING>

1997: Inaugural season for FTGS - Lead the Challenge Softball League.

1997: Installed electronic scoreboard on diamonds #2 & #3. Named diamond #2 LARJAC ELECTRIC.

2001: FTGS unveils it's website www.eteamz.com/FTGS

2006: Sprite League was started for girls ages 5-6

2009: FTGS unveils it's new website FTsoftball.com

2009: FTGS allows on-line registration via the new website and over 220 players are registered online.

2009: Dramatic improvements are made to the grounds, fields, dugouts, and concession stands. All fields are topped with brick dust.

2011: Scoreboards were replaced on all 3 fields. Cadet division age limit was reduced to 16.
