Mission Statement:
The purpose of the FTGS All Star program is to offer all participants an instructional
and competitive softball format built upon a foundation of sportsmanship. The FTGS
Board encourages FTGS league coaches to organize their respective age group’s All- Star program. Cooperation among all participants is viewed as the key to success.
All-Star Team Options:
The FTGS Board encourages all of our league coaches and league members to participate in the FTGS All-Star program. Coaches that are interested in coaching an all-star team should notify the FTGS Board of their intentions. While there is no time limit on requesting to be a coach, it is in the best interest to all involved that the coach’s intentions be announced as early as possible. Typically all-star coach announcements occur as early as the league draft (February). Coaches that want to coach all-star teams from the same league should work together to create a plan that benefits the girls and the leagues. The FTGS Board will select coaches according to this plan.
How the coaches determine to select their respective teams is a decision reserved for the coaches themselves. However, if the coaches cannot work out a compromise on their own the Board will involve itself and resolve any and all conflicts. Some of the selection options available to the all-star coaches include, but is not limited to the following:
1) Tryouts – coaches can hold tryouts and divide the all-star teams by talent, age, or a combination of both.
2) Players in each individual league can vote to select the team.
3) Coaches can randomly select the members of the team either choosing to split the talent or stacking the talent on one team.
4) In the event the coaches can’t come to an agreement as to how to run the all-star program for their particular league the FTGS Board will step in and select the team. The Board has many options available to resolve these conflicts. Drafting the teams is one example of how the Board can select the teams.
Note: Travel teams – “A” travel teams can participate in ASA, NSA, USSSA tournaments. “B” travel teams can participate in league all-star tournaments.
Rules:
1) The FTGS Board will approve all FTGS all-star managers.
2) The FTGS Board will approve all-star options for each age division.
3) If either the all-star manager or all-star team option is not approved by the FTGS
Board then FTGS sponsorship can be withheld (this can include but is not limited to coverage by league insurance, purchase of uniforms, and payment of tournament fees).
4) There should be early notification of all prospective managers of the all-star options being discussed (Registration, Draft, Managers meeting, or League bulletin boards).
5) There should be early notification of all players of the all-star options being discussed (Registration, Draft, Managers meeting, or League bulletin boards).
6) League sponsorship of a travel team will be determined on a case-by-case basis. All money generated for a FTGS all-star team must go through the FTGS Board.
7) All girls participating in the FTGS all-star program must participate in regular season practices and games.
8) Regular season practices and games take priority over all-star team practices and games.
Guidelines:
1) The FTGS Board should communicate the options available to all prospective all-star managers and help facilitate the all-star selection process.
2) Board involvement with choosing players for the all-star teams should be used as a last resort.
3) Managers must strive for cooperation with their counterparts and attempt to work out their differences.
4) The fundamental job of an all-star coach is to teach.
5) Coordination of a FTGS all-star team can begin at an early date - before or during the regular season.
6) Players participating in the FTGS all-star program can play in either their correct age group or move up an age group.
